Roger Bedford Obituary: Longtime State Senate power Roger Bedford dies at 67

Roger Bedford Obituary – Cause of Death: Longtime State Senate power Roger Bedford dies at 67.

Former State Senator 67-year-old Roger Bedford died at his home in Tuscaloosa on Wednesday, October 11, following a battle with cancer.

Bedford had been state senator representing District Six, which surrounded his home of Russellville in Franklin County of northwest Alabama. He served in the State Senate from 1982 to 1990 and 1994 to 2014.

He was an old-school Alabama Democrat.

“I’ve spent a lot of time in Montgomery as a teacher, school board member, and school administrator advocating for public education across the years. Roger Bedford was a longtime, solid voice and vote for bills that supported and protected public education students and employees. I’m sure he and I would not have agreed on every political issue, but lifting up our education system, providing the tools and resources necessary to increase achievement, and making sure teaching is a career that is attractive to the best and brightest by offering a good salary and solid benefits/retirement was a passion we shared,” a Facebook post read. “He was always accessible, answered and returned calls, made you feel welcome in his office, and knew you by name and about your family.”
