Michael Knox Obituary, Death – Michael Anthanasios Knox, a cherished member of the Norwalk, CT community, passed away on October 20th, 2023, leaving behind a legacy deeply intertwined with music, teaching, and outdoor pursuits. Born on June 6, 1986, to Jay and Marilyn Knox, he grew up demonstrating a remarkable aptitude for music and a passion for sharing his talents with others.

His academic journey began at Brien McMahon High School, where he excelled academically, graduating with high honors in the Class of 2004. An accomplished musician, he earned the prestigious title of All State Orchestra: Bass in 2003-2004 and played a vital role in the BMHS Jazz Band. He continued his education at the University of Connecticut, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Jazz Studies, followed by a Masters in Teaching from the University of Bridgeport in 2012.

Michael’s love for music was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a prominent figure in local music scenes, playing with various bands such as “The Proof” and “Steep Grade” at different venues. Additionally, he performed alongside renowned folk singer-songwriter J.P. Ruggieri. His dedication to music extended to his role as an instructor, teaching music at various institutions and privately coaching students in guitar, ukulele, and bass.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Michael was an avid outdoorsman, frequently immersing himself in nature through hiking in various scenic locations such as Devil’s Den, Norwalk River Valley, and Cranbury Park. He also enjoyed swimming at Bayley Beach and worked as a lifeguard at Roton Point and Weeburn Beach Club. Survived by his loving family, including his parents, Marilyn and Jay Knox, his brother David Knox and sister Laura Knox Burgos, Michael’s impact on the community remains palpable.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on Friday, October 27th, at Collins Funeral Home, with the family requesting donations to the Friends of Music Scholarship at the UCONN Foundation in lieu of flowers, a testament to his enduring commitment to music education. Michael will be remembered as a talented musician, dedicated teacher, and a soul who found solace and happiness through his love for music and the great outdoors.
